While the craft beer IPA movement seems to be ruled by a mantra that juicer and hazier is better, on the whole we find the current trend to be quite one dimensional and haven’t really been able to get behind the haze craze. We do appreciate their juicy flavors and aromas, though, and by incorporating our house yeast we have been able to produce beers like this one that are juicy but also have a bit more depth of character.
With that in mind we are happy to introduce the latest addition to our Belgian family of IPAs&mdashMarina. A sister to Mariko, Marina has the same heritage of Belgian yeast combined with American hops, the usage of which takes a lot of influence from juicy New England-style IPAs. In addition to the varieties used being different, the main thing that sets Marina apart from her kin is the amount being used&mdasha full 2.5 times that of her sister!
Citra and Sabro hops bring out the fruity apricot and stonefruit character of our yeast, while the addition of Simcoe provides an additional background herbal and piney note. This further accentuates the dryness of the beer, something that we often find missing in hazy IPAs, making it much more drinkable.
We hope you are excited to meet Marina!
Naming: Marina has a lot in common with her sister Mariko, namely Belgian yeast and American hops. Personality wise, though, Marina has a flair for the dynamic and a tendency to go a bit over the top. With 2.5 times the amount of hops as used in Mariko, she lives up to her namesake!
