燦々 (San-San)

The Craft Beer Market chain of restaurants has been a runaway success, and as luck would have it the first year anniversary of their fifth location, Jinbocho Terrace, nearly aligns with ours. Thanks in large part to owner Tanaka-san and manager Yashiro-san, the Jinbocho location has been a big supporter of Kyoto Brewing Co. from the beginning, eventually becoming one of our earliest dedicated taps in Tokyo. It was difficult to say no when they approached us about brewing a commemorative beer for the Terrace location...the hard part was figuring out what to brew!

We knew that Yashiro-san was a big fan of Saison and had a soft spot for our Ichigo Ichie, so it seemed natural that this become the foundation for this collaboration brew. To "spice" things up a bit, she suggested using fruit, hoping to craft a brew that would be a perfect match for drinking away a lazy afternoon on their outdoor terrace. After considering several options, we decided on a mixture of two in season Japanese citrus fruits: Natsumikan and Karamandarin. The result is a delicate fruit beer with a refreshing citrus character without being overly fruity.
