While some races might have a clear outcome from early on, it's the hope of the unexpected, and the thrill of the shock win that sticks in the memory.

While high-stakes races are a regular occurance in the world of horse racing, there's something extra special about the moment that the horses round the final corner and sprint towards the finish line at full speed, and when, from behind, one horse suddenly comes flying around the outside.

At that moment, time seems to slow down like a stop-motion animation, and the sounds fade away. The next moment, a deafening roar of erupting cheers, all directed at the shining horse.

Hoppy lagers are a perfect beer for any occasion, but especially on a sunny day at the races! When designing this beer, drinkability was the priority, and we wanted to make sure that this would be a beer we wanted to grab while trackside in the early Summer heat. We started off with a malt bill similar to a Mexican style lager, containing mostly pilsner malt, with a little flaked corn to lighten the body, and keep it dry and crispy, with an added touch of Vienna malt to add depth and sweetness. For hop profile, we went with classic American hops with some Centennial, Chinook, and Citra, giving the beer an awesome pineapple, citrus, and piney character. The bitterness is present enough to notice on the palate, but light enough to make you want another sip! The lager yeast and cold conditioning give the beer a dry, clean, and crisp finish - sometimes the best things are kept simple, so that is exactly what we did here.
