甘い罠 (Sweet Trap)

While most of the beers we brew here at Kyoto Brewing Co. are created to be highly dry and drinkable, that doesn’t mean that we don’t like a big malty beer from time to time, and this release certainly falls into that category. Pale Ale malt from Belgium has a very heavy flavour and candy character compared to its American cousins, and we combined this with a unique honey sweetness we find in Golden Promise malt from the UK. The dark fruit notes from the malt are a perfect backdrop for the strong orange and grapefruit flavours in Amarillo and Centennial hops, and the rich malt sweetness means we could cram in a huge amount of both!

Though it is hard to believe from the flavour, this beer has as much bitterness as Yawara, our recently released soft Double IPA! All of this malt and hop character is really brought together by an American ale strain that has a unique honey and jam like fruitiness in its flavour and aroma. Put all of this flavor together with 8.0% alcohol and you definitely have a beer for sipping!

Naming:

Consider it a warning.

A honey-like malt aroma with a touch of citrus draws you in to its comforting sweetness that hides the bitterness from the hops.

You read the 8% and thought it might be better to go for something a little lighter, perhaps the Saison. But it’s a cold night and so you thought "I’ll sip it slowly - it’ll be alright". You then raised your hand: “A glass of Sweet Trap please, master”.
