[Naming]
The name "Tsubutsumu" in Japanese evokes images of picking ripe juicy berries, and putting them straight into your mouth as opposed to a basket. Full of flavour and freshly picked, is there a better way to enjoy fruit? We couldn't quite find a translation into English, but felt Very Berry, while not the most original, gives an image of something packed with berry character, which this beer has aimed to do!
[Brewer's Voice]
Summertime brings berry season, so there was no better time to brew a beer with berries than now. To kick off the summer fruit season we have a blueberry sour brewed with black currants. One thing you will notice immediately is that there was no shortage of fruit used in this beer. It has a beautiful plum color to it and is bursting with berry flavor. This sour ale has a mild tartness contributed from the natural acidity of the fruits. The base of this beer is a simple pilsner malt base with some dextrin malt added for body and just a sprinkle of hops but designed at its core to let the fruit take center stage. At first pass you will smell the black currant in the aroma with a hint of blueberry, but as you take the first sip, the roles switch and the semi-sweet and tart flavor from the blueberries takes the lead. This beer has a mild sweetness and could nearly be mistaken for a tart fruit wine. This beer brings you the rich flavor of fresh picked blueberries and black currant ripe for the season in the convenience of a pint glass for your enjoyment.
