閏 (Uruu)

This release is our first in 2020 using American yeast and we wanted to brew something where the hops were without question taking center stage. The ABV is a manageable 6.5% and the malt character supremely basic. The simple base of Pilsner was highlighted with a small amount of Carapils for body, ensuring that nothing got in the way of this beer’s lead: Mosaic hops. Galaxy and Nelson Sauvin play supporting roles here and were used in a way common to brewing NEIPA and other juicy IPAs in order to ensure their fruity flavor remained in the beer without their sometimes harsh bitterness. From there everything else is carried out by Mosaic and its Cryo counterpart, leaving notes of mango, pine, and citrusy tropical fruit. One sip and we think you will agree that this is a beer that starts the year off right!

Naming:People who study Japanese start to realise that there are a wide number of instances where a phrase in English is represented by a single word in Japanese. A “leap year” is something that holds such significance and is therefore afforded its original name, “Uruu”. We wanted to get this leap year off to a good start and so decided to dedicate our first out-and-out IPA of the year to it. High in juicy hop character but low in bitterness, what better beer to raise a glass to in anticipation of a special year ahead?
