春の気まぐれ 2018 (Haru no Kimagure 2018)

1 bar limited to 1x kegs max

Nearly every beer lover has at one time or another fallen in love with the classic West Coast IPA. Big, bold, and brash, these hop bombs certainly pack a punch, but the extreme bitterness and sometimes cloying nature means it is sometimes a struggle to finish a pint, much less reach for another. While we still enjoy these beers once in a while, wouldn’t it be nice to have all the great parts of the West Coast style without the drawbacks? That is the question we looked to answer with the 2018 version of Haru no Kimagure.

No classic West Coast IPA would be complete without the usual hop suspects like Centennial, Cascade, and Chinook. To even out the hop load, however, we looked to Citra to give a bit more rounded citrus character in both flavour and aroma while at the same time dialing back the IBUs slightly. We also turned to Vienna malt instead of the typical crystal malt to support the intense hop load which gives a bit of a softer, rounded backbone for the hops to build upon. The result is certainly a citrusy hop bomb, but one that you can still enjoy a few pints of without your palette wanting to retire for the evening! We look forward to sharing this reinterpretation of a classic IPA style with you.
