暗闇の閃光 (Flash in the Darkness)

1 bar limited to 2x kegs max

Shiga Kogen Beer is one of the breweries we respect the most. Not only do they brew fantastic beer over a wide range of styles, they also were a big part of Kyoto Brewing Co.'s start, allowing head brewer Chris to work there and gain experience in preparation for opening our brewery. When they invited us to participate in their annual Snow Monkey Beer Live, we were both humbled and overjoyed. We knew the only way to mark the occasion was to brew a special beer for the festival.

What we decided on was a base recipe that wasn't quite a Black IPA but much more than a Robust Porter or Foreign Export Stout that used our house Belgian yeast. Smokey and minty characteristics of the hops entice the roast character of the dark malts and dry fruit character of the yeast. Waves of flavour and bitterness come and go, making this a truly unique brew.

Naming: Kurayami no Senko, or "Flash in the Darkness," is how we see the position of craft beer in the larger beer world. Despite being overrun with (ironically) pale yellow liquid that largely tastes the same regardless of manufacturer, craft beer provides a wide variety of styles and flavours to the consumer, a glimmer of light in an otherwise dark landscape. For this beer in particular, a flash of hop and yeast flavour cuts through the dark character of the malt while waves of bitterness linger on the tongue, something you are certainly not going to find in any mass produced lager!
