夏の気まぐれ 2019 (Natsu no Kimagure 2019)

We use the Kimagure series as a canvas for experimentation and with the summer 2019 version, we looked to both new ingredients (experimental hops and flaked wheat) as well as techniques (creating a full-bodied, low ABV session beer) to craft something easy drinking but still full of flavour. The result is one of our lowest ABV beers to date, an astonishingly low 4.0%. The use of flaked wheat and a very traditional English ale malt (Golden Promise) leave a very full body and a malt flavour profile akin to traditional British ales, while a new experimental hop variety that has yet to be named (HBC 685) provides hints of citrus and overripe fruit as well as an underlying herbal and earthy quality. To round out the edges we paired this with an old favourite, Simcoe, and with such a strong malt background we were able to use quite a bit of both without accenting hop astringency. We hope you agree that this is an easy drinking ode to hops!
