オーツ麦畑でつかまえて (Catcher in the Oats)

'Ohtsu-mugi-batake de Tsukamaete' ("Catcher in the Oats") has been our way to play with two ingredients: hops from Wisconsin, USA, and malted oats.

While citrusy American hops are thought of as being home to the Pacific Northwest, the same varieties grown in Wisconsin seem to display a fruitier and sweeter character in this beer, something that interestingly shows that terroir is not limited to grapes in winemaking. We also wanted to see what a large percentage of malted oats (20%) would do to the mouthfeel of a non-dark beer, resulting in a rich and silky mouthfeel you don't normally find in most IPAs.

Naming: As this beer has debuted just after another beer in our hop experimentation series, Catcher in the Wheat, we couldn't resist the temptation to run with the theme and call this beer Catcher in the Oats. Hopefully J.D. Salinger and Holden Caulfield won't be offended!
