[Naming]
The Rokkasen series' concept is based around taking a fruit and expressing it in an IPA form, with the addition of fruit. The naming convention for the individual products literally refers to "果" ("ka") meaning fruit, and then a character representing the fruit or character. This time it is "南" ("nan"), meaning "south", alluding to the tropical pineapple that inspired this beer.
[Brewer's Voice]
Nan no Ka, the third product in the “Rokkasen” fruit IPA series uses pineapple juice combined with tropical hops to make a beer perfect for sitting on a beach, or to just make you feel like you’re somewhere warmer!

The malt design is simple so as not to get in away of the flavour of the juice. For the hops, we added Chinook and Cryo Idaho7 at the end of boiling, aiming to give it a resinous and sharp bitterness that compliments the pineapple.
By adding the fruit juice at a different time than we normally would, the fruit juice combined better with the base wort, and the pineapple came through as the cold side hops were added. With the further addition of Mosaic and Simcoe, the tropical character was complete.

The finish brings an added layer, with gentle coconut along with further pineapple, and a touch of dankness. A touch of acidity from the pineapple remains, rounding off the refreshing experience. A beer for Summer, just at the right time!
