いろとりどり パッションフルーツピルス編 (Irotoridori Passion Fruit Pils)

A light and refreshing New Zealand pilsner bursting with tropical passion fruit character

[Character]
A crisp, refreshing, and moderately hopped pilsner, with a tropical bouquet of passion fruit, mango, guava, and citrus. The beer is extra refreshing thanks to the slight tartness from the passion fruit, which also brings a mild haze and attractively light pink hue.
[Food Pairing]
White fish ceviche (citrus marinade), sweet and sour buffalo wings, potato with yuzu kosho
[Naming]
New Zealand is a paradise for much wildlife, and the diversity of bird species there is something truly to behold, each of which offering a unique and vibrant appearance. The hops grown there are equally unique and vibrant, and of an exceptional standard, and we wanted this series to reflect this. We hope you enjoy this journey to the Southern Hemisphere as much as we do!
[Brewer's Voice]
Lightly fruited and hoppy lagers are perfect for when the weather begins to warm. What’s not to like? It's a style that's light, refreshing, drinkable, but with enough flavour to keep you wanting more. The malt base of this beer was kept simple with mostly pilsner and a small amount of wheat and oats to soften the mouthfeel and add a touch of body. We went with all NZ hops for this beer because of the intense tropical fruit character they are known for. This consisted of New Zealand Cascade in the mash, with Kohia Nelson in the whirlpool, giving the beer a mild and soft bitterness to balance out the initial hit of tropical passion fruit character. More NZ Cascade was added to the dry hop, but this time paired with Nelson Sauvin hops, contributing a white peach and almost fruit wine-like character here. The beer was fermented on a blend of 2 types of passion fruit juice. The juice contributed a light rose-like hue to the beer, while adding a mild acidity along with that lovely tropical flavour passion fruit is known for. Lastly, this beer was fermented with a thermotolerant lager strain, giving the beer some light tropical esters typically found in ale yeasts, with a familiar clean and crisp lager finish. This beer blends hop and fruit character well, with neither becoming too dominant, and working together more to compliment one another. With how refreshing this beer is, this will be an after-work go-to for some time!
